Sales Kickoff Pre-Read Packet Template
Prep materials sent before kickoff so reps arrive primed instead of cold — a welcome letter, state-of-business memo, self-assessment, and reflection prompts, all ready to fill in and send.
What's inside
- Welcome letter template with fill-in theme and rationale
- Agenda-at-a-glance grid
- State-of-business memo template (targets, wins, market shifts)
- Competitive landscape one-pager outline
- Pre-arrival self-assessment (linked to the Skill Mastery Quiz)
- 3 reflection questions reps answer before they arrive
- What-to-bring / logistics checklist
- Manager pre-brief conversation guide (1:1 before kickoff)
Send this to every attendee 1–2 weeks before kickoff. The goal: reps arrive primed with context and a personal goal, so sessions can start at depth instead of re-explaining the basics.
1. Welcome letter (fill in and send as the cover email)
Subject: Your [Company] Kickoff Pre-Read — please complete before [date] Hi team, This year's kickoff theme is "[theme]." We chose it because [one sentence: the business reason this theme matters right now]. Attached is everything you need to arrive ready — not cold. It should take about [X minutes] to work through. Please complete the self-assessment and reflection questions before [date] — your manager will use them in your pre-brief 1:1. See you in [city]. [Sender name / role]
2. Agenda-at-a-glance
| Day | Time | Session | Skill focus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Opening keynote | ||
| Day 1 | Breakout: | ||
| Day 2 | Breakout: | ||
| Day 2 | Workshop: | ||
| Day 3 | Closing + commitments |
3. State-of-business memo (fill in)

4. Competitive landscape — one-pager
| Competitor | Their pitch | Where we win | Where we're vulnerable |
|---|---|---|---|
5. Pre-arrival self-assessment
Before you arrive, complete the Skill Mastery Self-Check Quiz (Discovery / Negotiation / Objection Handling). Bring your scores — several breakout sessions will ask you to work from your own lowest-scoring item.
6. Reflection questions (answer before you arrive)
- What's one deal in the last quarter you wish had gone differently — and which specific skill, if it had been stronger, would have changed the outcome?
- What's the one thing you want to be able to do differently by the end of this kickoff?
- What's one piece of feedback you've been given repeatedly but haven't yet fixed?
(Bring written answers — your manager will reference these in your pre-brief.)
7. Logistics checklist
- Travel booked and confirmed
- Hotel confirmed, arrival/departure dates match agenda
- Dress code confirmed: _________
- Laptop + charger + company badge/ID
- Breakout pre-reads printed or downloaded offline
- Expense process for the trip reviewed
8. Manager pre-brief guide (1:1, the week before kickoff)
Use these prompts in a 15-minute call with each rep before they travel:
- "Walk me through your answers to the 3 reflection questions — what stood out to you?"
- "Looking at your Skill Mastery scores, which of the three is your priority this quarter?"
- "What's one specific thing you want to leave kickoff able to do that you can't do today?"
- "I'll check in with you on this 30 days after we're back — what should I ask you?"
How to use it
Send the completed packet 1-2 weeks before kickoff, and have managers run the pre-brief 1:1 the week before so every rep arrives with a personal goal for the event, not just a boarding pass.
