Rejection Resilience Scorecard
A 5-marker rubric for scoring your own response to a lost deal — time-to-reset, attribution accuracy, next-action speed, pipeline behavior, and self-talk — built to catch a resilience spiral before it wrecks next week's pipeline.
What's inside
- 5 resilience markers scored 1-5 with concrete descriptors at each anchor point
- Deal-loss intake fields (deal name, size, stage, date)
- Total score bands (strong / watch / active risk) with a recommended action per band
- Repeatable resilience log table to track the trend across multiple losses, not just one bad day
- Explicit trigger point for escalating to a manager
How to use this
Fill this out within 24 hours of losing a deal you cared about. Score yourself honestly on each of the 5 markers — this is about your response to the loss, not the loss itself. Track your scores over time in the log at the bottom; a downward trend across 2-3 consecutive losses is your earliest warning sign of a spiral, well before it shows up in next month's pipeline numbers.
Deal lost: _______________ Date lost: _______________ Deal size/stage: _______________
The 5 Resilience Markers
1. Time-to-Reset
How long between hearing "no" and getting back to full-effort prospecting/pipeline activity?
- 1 — More than 3 days; activity visibly stalled
- 3 — Same day or next day, but noticeably lower energy/output
- 5 — Same day, full effort resumed within hours
Your score: ___
2. Attribution Accuracy
Do you explain the loss with an accurate mix of controllable and external factors, or do you distort it?
- 1 — Globalized ("I'm just bad at this") or fully externalized/blame-shifted ("it was rigged, nothing I could do")
- 3 — Partially accurate but leans one way
- 5 — Specific, accurate mix: names what you controlled and could improve, and what genuinely wasn't in your control
Your score: ___
3. Next-Action Speed
How fast do you take the next constructive action — a real debrief, a follow-up for future opportunity, logging the learning?
- 1 — No debrief or follow-up happens; the deal is just closed and dropped
- 3 — Debrief happens eventually, more than a week later
- 5 — Debrief or learning captured within 48 hours, follow-up path for future opportunity identified
Your score: ___
4. Pipeline Behavior
Does your prospecting/pipeline-building activity in the following week dip measurably vs. your normal baseline?
- 1 — Clear dip: fewer dials, fewer new opportunities created, visible pullback
- 3 — Slight dip, recovers within the week
- 5 — No measurable dip — activity holds at baseline or above
Your score: ___
5. Self-Talk / Narrative Language
How do you describe the loss to yourself and to others — specific/temporary/learnable, or permanent/pervasive/personal?
- 1 — Permanent, pervasive, personal language ("I always lose these," "I'm not cut out for this")
- 3 — Mixed language, some catastrophizing creeps in
- 5 — Specific and temporary language ("this deal, for this reason, this time" — with a named adjustment for next time)
Your score: ___
Total Score: ___ / 25
| Total | Read |
|---|---|
| 20-25 | Strong resilience — no intervention needed, keep the log going |
| 13-19 | Watch it — flag to your manager or peer group; this deal is fine on its own but the pattern matters |
| 5-12 | Active risk — talk to your manager before next week's pipeline reviews; this is the profile that precedes a multi-week slump |

Two or more consecutive totals below 15 is the trigger point — raise it with your manager before the next pipeline review, not after.
How to use it
Fill it out within 24 hours of any deal loss you cared about, log the total in the tracking table, and escalate to your manager if two consecutive scores fall below 15.
