LinkedIn Prospecting Script Library

Connection requests, InMail openers, and 3-touch follow-up sequences that read like a person wrote them, organized by trigger so you always have the right opener for how you found the prospect.

What's inside

  • 6 connection request templates by trigger (mutual connection, content engagement, job change, shared group, event/webinar, cold)
  • 5 InMail opener templates by angle
  • 3 full 3-touch follow-up sequences (post-connection-accept, post-InMail-no-reply, post-content-engagement)
  • Profile-view-only nudge script (for prospects who viewed but didn't engage)
  • Comment-to-DM bridge script
  • Character-count guidance per message type
  • Banned-phrase list (bot-sounding language to strip out)
  • Response-triage guide — what to send based on how they reply

Organized by how you found the prospect — always match the opener to the actual trigger, never send a generic one.

Connection Requests (max ~275 characters — keep these SHORT)

1. Mutual Connection

"Hi [First Name] — noticed we're both connected to [Mutual Connection]. Would like to connect and follow what you're building at [Company]."

2. Content Engagement (they posted, you engaged)

"Hi [First Name] — really liked your take on [specific point from their post]. Would like to connect and keep following your posts on [topic]."

3. Job Change

"Hi [First Name] — congrats on the move to [Company]! Would like to connect as you settle into the new role."

4. Shared Group

"Hi [First Name] — saw we're both in [Group]. Always good to connect with others thinking about [group topic]."

5. Event/Webinar

"Hi [First Name] — great to (virtually) cross paths at [Event]. Would like to stay connected."

6. Cold (no shared trigger)

"Hi [First Name] — came across your profile while researching [Role]s at [Industry] companies. Would like to connect."

Rule: Never add a pitch to the connection note itself. The note's only job is to get accepted — sell nothing here.

InMail Openers (used when not yet connected — can be longer, 500–800 characters)

1. Trigger-Based

"Hi [First Name] — saw [Trigger, e.g. recent funding/hire/launch] and figured your team might be running into [Problem] around now. I work with [Role]s on exactly that — worth a short exchange, or is it not a priority right now?"

2. Peer-Proof

"Hi [First Name] — I've been talking to a few [Role]s at [Industry] companies about [Problem], including folks at [Peer Company]. Curious whether it's something you're dealing with at [Company] too?"

3. Direct Value

"Hi [First Name] — most [Role]s I speak with are losing [Specific Metric] to [Problem]. If that's true for [Company] too, happy to share what's worked elsewhere — if not, no worries at all."

4. Curiosity/Question

"Hi [First Name] — quick question: is [specific process] still handled manually at [Company], or has that changed recently? Asking because it usually connects to [Problem]."

5. Content-Based

"Hi [First Name] — your post on [topic] resonated, especially the point about [specific detail]. It connects closely to something we help [Role]s with — open to a short exchange on it?"

3-Touch Follow-Up Sequences

Sequence A — After Connection Request Accepted (no reply to pitch yet)

Touch 1 (same day as accept): "Thanks for connecting, [First Name]! Noticed [something specific from their profile/recent activity] — are you currently focused on [Problem], or is that not on your plate?"

Touch 2 (4 days later, if no reply): "Hi [First Name] — no pressure to reply, just didn't want my last message to get buried. Curious if [Problem] is something you're dealing with at [Company] these days."

Touch 3 (8 days later, if no reply): "[First Name] — last note from me on this for now. If [Problem] ever becomes a priority, feel free to reach out — always happy to share what's worked for similar teams."

Sequence B — After InMail, No Reply

Touch 1 (5 days later): "Hi [First Name] — following up in case this got buried. Still curious whether [Problem] is on your radar at [Company]."

Touch 2 (7 days later): "[First Name] — sharing this in case useful regardless of timing: [one-line insight or stat related to Problem]. Happy to send more if relevant."

Touch 3 (10 days later): "Last one from me, [First Name] — if the timing's ever right on [Problem], my inbox is open. Good luck with everything at [Company]."

Sequence C — After They Engaged With Your Content (liked/commented)

Touch 1 (within 24 hrs of engagement): "Hi [First Name] — thanks for engaging with my post on [topic]! Curious what resonated, or if you're dealing with [related Problem] yourself?"

Touch 2 (5 days later, if no reply): "[First Name] — following up since you'd engaged with the post on [topic]. Is [Problem] something live for you at [Company] right now?"

Touch 3 (9 days later, if no reply): "No worries if it's not top of mind, [First Name] — I'll leave this here. Feel free to reach out anytime if [Problem] becomes relevant."

Profile-View-Only Nudge (they viewed your profile, no other action)

"Hi [First Name] — noticed you stopped by my profile. If it's related to [Problem], happy to answer any questions directly — otherwise, no worries at all!"

Comment-to-DM Bridge (they commented on your post — move it to DM)

"Hi [First Name] — appreciated your comment on [post topic], especially [specific detail]. Wanted to continue that thread here rather than clutter the comments — are you seeing [Problem] show up at [Company] too?"

Response-Triage Guide

Their ReplyYour Next Move
“Not right now”Ask permission to check back in a specific timeframe (e.g. “fair enough — ok if I check back in Q[X]?”), then stop the sequence
“Not the right person”Ask directly: “who would be, and would you mind an intro?”
“Tell me more”Move to a discovery question, do NOT paste a feature list — ask about their situation first
Silence after 3 touchesStop; do not add a 4th touch on LinkedIn — switch channel (email) or drop for the quarter
Thumbs-up/emoji onlyTreat as weak positive — send one more specific, low-effort question, not a meeting ask

Banned Phrases (strip these — they read as automated)

  • “I hope this message finds you well”
  • “I wanted to reach out and touch base”
  • “In today's fast-paced world/market”
  • “I noticed you're a [title] at [Company]” (this is public info, restating it reads as a template)
  • Any message with zero specific detail unique to that person's profile or recent activity

How to use it

Match the connection-request template to the actual trigger that brought you to the prospect, keep the note pitch-free, then run the matching 3-touch sequence once connected — using the Response-Triage Guide to decide the next move the moment they reply.
