Cold Email Follow-Up Sequence Templates (7-Touch)
A full 7-touch email sequence with exact send timing and a fresh angle on every touch - proof, pain, referral ask, value-add, and a genuine close-the-loop - so 'just following up' never has to appear.
What's inside
- Send-timing table for all 7 touches (Day 0 through Day 32)
- Word-for-word subject line and body copy for every touch
- A distinct strategic angle per touch so no two emails repeat the same ask
- Personalization token guide ([First Name], [Company], [Trigger], etc.)
- Multichannel pairing suggestions (call/LinkedIn touches to run between emails)
- Stop rules - when to end the sequence early
- A close-the-loop breakup email that doesn't burn the relationship
Send-Timing Table
| Touch | Day | Angle |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Day 0 | Initial outreach - specific, relevant, one clear ask |
| 2 | Day 3 | Quick bump + one new piece of value |
| 3 | Day 6 | New angle - proof/case study |
| 4 | Day 10 | Pain-point reframe |
| 5 | Day 15 | Social proof + soft referral ask |
| 6 | Day 22 | Pure value-add, no ask |
| 7 | Day 32 | Close-the-loop (breakup, not guilt-trip) |
Pair Touch 2 or 3 with a phone call, and Touch 5 with a LinkedIn connection request/comment, if running multichannel.
Touch 1 - Day 0 - Initial Outreach
Subject: quick question about [specific process/tool at Company]
Hi [First Name],
[One sentence tying to something specific and real - a trigger event, a piece of content they published, or a specific observable fact about their team/role].
Most [role title]s I talk to are dealing with [specific, credible pain point relevant to their function] - curious whether that's true at [Company] too, or whether you've already got it solved.
If it's relevant, worth 15 minutes to compare notes?

Touch 2 - Day 3 - Quick Bump + New Value
Subject: re: quick question about [specific process/tool]
Hi [First Name],
Following up in case this got buried - one more thought: [one new, specific, useful piece of insight, stat, or observation relevant to the pain point, not a repeat of Touch 1].
Still worth a short conversation if the timing's right.

Touch 3 - Day 6 - Proof / Case Study Angle
Subject: how [comparable company] handled [specific problem]
Hi [First Name],
Wanted to share something concrete rather than just following up again: [comparable company, similar size/industry] was dealing with [specific pain point] and [specific, credible outcome/change] after addressing it.
Happy to walk through exactly what they changed, if useful for [Company].

Touch 4 - Day 10 - Pain-Point Reframe
Subject: the hidden cost of [common current approach]
Hi [First Name],
Most teams don't measure [specific cost - time, error rate, missed revenue] tied to [common approach], until they see the number.
If [Company] is running [common approach] today, it might be worth 15 minutes to see whether that cost applies here too - no pressure either way.

Touch 5 - Day 15 - Social Proof + Soft Referral Ask
Subject: how [Industry] teams are approaching [topic]
Hi [First Name],
[Number] teams in [Industry] have shifted their approach to [topic] over the last [timeframe] - happy to share what's changed if it's useful.
Also - if you're not the right person for this, any chance you could point me to whoever owns [specific process/function] at [Company]? Appreciate it either way.

Touch 6 - Day 22 - Pure Value-Add, No Ask
Subject: thought this might be useful, no strings attached
Hi [First Name],
Not looking for anything here - just sharing [a genuinely useful resource: a short guide, benchmark data, template] that's relevant to [specific pain point/topic]. Hope it's useful regardless of timing.

Touch 7 - Day 32 - Close the Loop
Subject: closing the loop
Hi [First Name],
I've reached out a few times about [specific topic] and haven't heard back - totally understand if it's not a priority right now.
I'll close this out on my end. If timing changes down the line, my door's open - just reply anytime.
Wishing you and the team well.

Personalization Tokens
| Token | Fill with |
|---|---|
| [First Name] / [Company] | Standard CRM merge fields |
| [Trigger] | A specific, recent, real event - funding, hire, launch, expansion |
| [specific pain point] | Something you can credibly claim is common for their role/industry, not generic |
| [comparable company] | A real reference customer/example, permission-cleared to name |
| [Number] | A real, defensible figure - don't invent precision you can't back up if asked |
Stop Rules
- Any reply (including "not interested") ends the automated sequence immediately - move to manual handling
- A bounce or auto-responder indicating the contact has left the company ends the sequence and triggers a re-route to the new contact if identifiable
- An explicit opt-out/unsubscribe ends the sequence and adds the contact to your suppression list permanently
- If Touch 7 gets no reply, the account moves to a long-cycle nurture track (quarterly, value-only touches) rather than being re-entered into this same 7-touch sequence
How to use it
Load the 7 templates into your sequencer with the exact day-offsets below, fill in the personalization tokens for each account, and stop the sequence immediately if the prospect replies, converts, or asks to be removed.
