Cold Calling Team Contest & Gamification Toolkit

Ready-to-run leaderboard mechanics, quality-weighted scoring formulas, prize structures, and anti-gaming rules for a dial-volume team contest that rewards good calls, not just noisy ones.

What's inside

  • The quality-weighted points formula (dials, connects, scored calls, meetings booked, meetings held)
  • 3 ready-to-run contest formats: Dial Derby, Meeting Madness, Quality Cup
  • Prize structure scaled by team size (under 8 / 8–20 / 20+ reps)
  • 5 anti-gaming rules including the 8-second dial floor and the quality-eligibility floor
  • Leaderboard cadence and display guidance
  • A copy-paste kickoff announcement template

Volume-only contests train reps to mash the dialer, not to get better at calling. Every format below is quality-weighted so winning requires good calls at volume, not just volume.

The scoring formula

``` Points = (Dials × 0.5)
        • (Connects × 2)
        • (Quality-Scored Calls × 3) — only calls scoring 75+ on the Call Monitoring Scorecard
        • (Meetings Booked × 15)
        • (Meetings Held/Showed × 10)
```

Qualifying floor: a rep must have at least 2 scorecard-reviewed calls at 75+ during the contest window to be eligible for any prize. This blocks "dial and hang up" gaming from ever topping the board.

Format 1 — "Dial Derby" (volume + quality gate)

  • Length: 1 week
  • Scoring: the formula above
  • Cadence: daily standings posted
  • Best for: proficient+ reps who are past ramp

Format 2 — "Meeting Madness" (outcomes-only)

  • Length: 2 weeks
  • Scoring: Meetings Booked × 10 + Meetings Held × 15 (no credit for no-shows)
  • Best for: experienced reps where the volume race has gotten stale

Format 3 — "Quality Cup" (skill-only)

  • Length: 1 week
  • Scoring: ranked purely by average Call Monitoring Scorecard score across a minimum of 5 reviewed calls — no dial or meeting component at all
  • Best for: reps still in ramp who shouldn't be volume-competing against tenured reps; also the fairest format to run team-wide once a quarter as a pure craft check

Prize structure by team size

Team sizeStructure
Under 8 reps1st place only, modest value (~half-day off or equivalent); keep it simple, monthly cadence
8–20 repsTiered 1st/2nd/3rd, plus a separate "Most Improved" prize scored on score delta, not absolute rank — protects newer reps from never winning
20+ repsPod/team leaderboards alongside individual; team prize pool; a rotating Quality Cup recognition kept separate from the volume contest so it doesn't always go to the loudest dialer

Leaderboard cadence

  • Volume contests: updated daily, posted in a shared channel
  • Quality/outcome contests: updated weekly
  • Never keep the leaderboard in a spreadsheet nobody opens — post it where the team already lives

Anti-gaming rules (state these up front, every time)

  1. Any call under 8 seconds doesn't count as a "dial" toward points — blocks speed-dial-and-hang-up abuse.
  2. Meetings must show in the CRM/calendar as booked by a real prospect, not a self-booked placeholder.
  3. The quality floor (2+ reviewed calls at 75+) applies to every format — no exceptions for the leader.
  4. Manager spot-checks the top 3 leaderboard positions' calls before any prize is paid out.
  5. No contest runs during the last week of a fiscal quarter — protects real pipeline from rushed, low-quality activity.

Copy-paste kickoff announcement

Starting Monday: Dial Derby. One week, one leaderboard, real prizes. Here's the twist — dials alone won't win it. You need quality-reviewed calls scoring 75+ to even be eligible for a prize, so this is about good calls at volume, not just volume. Full scoring rules and the leaderboard channel are pinned below. Let's go.

How to use it

Pick the format that matches your team's current stage (Quality Cup for ramping reps, Dial Derby or Meeting Madness for tenured reps), post the scoring formula and anti-gaming rules before Day 1, and spot-check the top 3 finishers' calls before paying out any prize.
